eBay Lays off 300 Employees in the Bay Area

The San Francisco Bay Area is being hit hard with layoffs from different companies, especially in the tech industry. Today, you can add eBay to the list of those companies.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, the online marketplace giant is preparing to lay off around 300 jobs in the Bay Area. About 200 of those jobs are out of San Jose.

According to a filing made to the state's Employee Development Department, the company says it plans to make the cuts by July 20. The company already notified the employees who would be laid off from the company.

In a notice to the EDD, the eBay employment counsel Amir Vonsover said a few weeks ago, "We [eBay) will conduct a mass layoff."

These layoffs follow in the wake of eBay laying off a bunch of employees in their Portland, Oregon office just last month. The company said that is a part of a global workforce reduction strategy, saying in that statement at that time to Oregon Live, "We are sharpening our focus on priority initiatives, aligning our workforce with these initiatives, and reducing our global workforce by a low single digit percentage."

Since the end of 2017, the company has employed over 14,100 people all around the world. Now that eBay is making these playoffs, it almost looks like they're trying to cut their numbers in half, especially with competition coming from other sites, like Amazon or Etsy.

Unfortunate that this happened to a bunch of good employees at the company, but just like any company, it happens, and I hope these employees find good paying work elsewhere either in the US or around the world. As for eBay, they have their work cut out for him and we'll see if they can stay afloat with all this competition rising up to challenge them.

Stormy Daniels Has Her Charges Dropped

Looks like Stormy Daniels may have just dodged a bullet in Columbus.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, was booked into jail following an appearance out at the Sirens club in Columbus, Ohio. She was accused of touching three undercover police officers in violation of law that prohibits any nude performers from coming into contact with patrons. So what does this mean? You may be thinking it's a stupid law, right?

Well, unfortunately, not to Columbus. Back in 2007, the Columbus City Council passed the so-called Community Defense Act, to crack down on stuff like these that exist in almost every club. Columbus has been trying to get more family-friendly, similar to states like Utah, which emphasizes family-friendly engagements. It was more directed at people who were regulars at these clubs, like Sirens. Because Stormy Daniels is not a regular, the City Attorney of Columbus determined that this was not a criminal act and thus had the charges dropped. So, it's an interesting law that may not apply to a lot of states but it does apply to Columbus and it's just a simple objective to try to get family-friendly into more of its culture.

I understand Stormy Daniels did nothing wrong in this case and this is just her profession and all that. I understand it from a money standpoint. However, in many cases, it may not help her with the public image, especially since President Trump has made every attempt to go after Daniels and try to discredit her on these claims. She won't give up, that's understandable, but it's also going to give the President and his supporters more firepower to discredit her and to kick her down.

Let's face facts for the moment: This has nothing to do with the suits that were filed from her against Trump. This was just a simple mistake that the city of Columbus recognized after she was charged. We all do stuff for money, even if it's a mistake, and this sounds like it was a mistake. At least she has a great lawyer in Michael Avenatti, who pounced on this immediately to say that his client was traumatized by the incident. That's fair and that's what he's expected to do.

Sorry, Trump, even if you think this has something to do with her discredibility, it doesn't. She made a mistake in a city whose law she didn't know about. She's not scheduled to make any more appearances in Columbus and has already left the state of Ohio.

Stormy Daniels definitely escaped on this one. Hopefully, she won't get in any more trouble from here on out, at least until this case is wrapped up.
