Would I Move to Austin? Absolutely

If any of you are living in California currently, especially those living in the Silicon Valley who need work, you may be in luck. Unfortunately, it means having to move to a different state. Are you up for it?

You should be. And you should move to Austin, Texas, just like my friend Evelyn has already done.

A recent report on LinkedIn's August Workforce Report shows that hiring is up 14% from last July, and that on LinkedIn, for every 10,000 LinkedIn members that currently live in Austin, 105 have already arrived in the last 12 months. Want to know the cities that they are coming from? 10.5% are from Houston, 7.6% are from San Francisco, and 4.8% are from New York. Now these are big cities and two of those cities have very high taxes in New York and San Francisco. It's understandable why many people are choosing Austin as a place to live, other than the tech industry.

Still, however, the city is experiencing a shortage in job skills like oral communication and digital literacy. These are areas I could be very experienced in.

So with all that I said, would I move to Austin? Absolutely. Would I jump at the first chance? If the right opportunity presented itself. There are plenty of jobs in Austin that many people, especially those in the tech industry, could snag first-hand. And according to my friend Evelyn, who moved to the city many months ago, she says it's a great city for its culture, its history, and its focus towards the suburban residents who live it in. It's popular and if it's any indication, there'll be more people moving towards them.

I want to live in Austin because I'm tired of what California has been geared towards lately: higher taxes, less opportunities for millennials there, and the influx of immigrants from either India and high-skilled countries who have been taking these jobs, perhaps on unpaid or low pay salaries. I want an opportunity for myself to go to another city, experience in, work on it, and make a living out of it. I would love it, and I would hope that other people would to.

So folks out there in Austin who would like to give me the opportunity, I will jump at it. And if this report is any other indication, it means more people are going to come, other than myself. If there's a shortage, other people in other big cities will fill it.
